Complaints and public interest disclosures

A public interest disclosure draws attention to a circumstance the remedying or discontinuation of which serves the interest of the community or the whole society. A public interest disclosure may also include a proposal.

A complaint is a request to putting an end to a violation of individual rights or interests the fulfilment of which does not fall under the scope of any other legal proceedings. A complaint may also include a proposal.

If a complaint or public interest disclosure was filed to an organisation that has no competence over the case, the complaint or the public interest disclosure will be forwarded to the competent organisation within 8 days of its receipt.

A complaint or public interest disclosure may be filed to the competent organisation, to any other organisation or public body where the violation occurred or to the Office of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights.

Please note: complaints or public interest disclosures made by unidentifiable persons may not be examined. However, should you decide not to disclose your name to the competent organisation, you can do so by filing your complaint via the website of the Office of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights and choosing “lodge a complaint without identification”.
